In a story told through song, Bali plans to escape from slavery after learning that his master is going to sell his young daughter, Emala. With house slave Dembi, they strike out in the dead of night, singing Negro spirituals that they hope will protect them on their perilous journey to freedom.

Musical Play

We spent years converting "Underground" from a successful film into an impactful, meaning experience on the stage. The play had it's World Premiere in October 2015 as the Closing Night Event at the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival!


In March 2016, this musical play was produced as a reading in New York City with the Negro Ensemble Company and was directed by TONY-award winner, Ben Harney!

In August 2016, "Underground" was the very first play in the inagural Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival! We were honored to open up their festival in every sense of the word.
